Lotus Elan Plus 2

Lotus Elan Plus 2 by Spyder Engineering

Beneath the Lotus GRP bodywork is a replacement chassis made by Spyder Engineering. Spyder has 30 plus years’ experience designing and manufacturing replacement parts for the Lotus mark.

This is a replacement chassis with a difference though, as it accommodates a Ford 2ltr Zetec engine and MT75 gearbox with a Ford 7.5” limited slip differential final drive. The engine is fuel injected and fitted with twin Jenvy throttle bodies all controlled by an Emerald ECU.

The double wishbone suspension on all four corners is still largely as Lotus intended, except that there are some changes associated with the different power plant and drivetrain. Brakes are discs all round, 260mm vented at the front and 255mm solids at the rear. The conversion is cleverly designed to work within the confines of the Lotus bodywork, therefore there are no changes to or cutting of the GRP body shell.

So despite its classic appearance and original interior, this Elan Plus 2 is thoroughly modern underneath.
